At 33, Smaranda accidentally found out she had lung cancer. She needs help raising money to get treatment in Germany.

„I always thought that the year of my 33rd birthday would be my great year. The year I would do something important. Have my first child, a voyage to Peru, or finally have my big break thru as an artist or creative. I never thought this would be the year I’d need to fight cancer.

While convinced I was troubled by a very stubborn, lasting cold, I eventually found out and was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in Romania. This was not the diagnose I was willing to accept so I left for Germany. I remember anxiously the contemptuous and incoherent treatment I received in Romania from some doctors, rushing to cut me open even in absence of a biopsy.

Compared to Romania, German doctors took me by the hand, looked me in the eye and explained me clearly and in detail the situation in which I find myself: I was diagnosed with treatable stage 3 cancer. I liked this version much more.

What I didn't like were the two years of life expectancy that I was given, if I didn't start treatment immediately.

Besides the two years, the most painful was acknowledging that IF the treatment will successfully act on my lung cancer, after surgery, because of the chemo, I will not be able to bare children, ever…

When I left for Germany to find a cure, my family, my husband’s family, my husband and I, managed to scrape together around 7,000 Euros. Sadly this amount of money is not sufficient, since my treatment’s cost is around 150,000 Euros and my insurance does not cover these expenses in Germany.

Please help me start treatment and beat the odds!”
