Bucharest hosts spring Honey Fair this weekend
The National Honey Fair that kicks off today, March 20, in Bucharest will bring together over 100 beekeepers from all around Romania.
Visitors will find several types of honey and other products related to honey at the spring edition of the fair, which will end on March 22, reports local Agerpres. The event is organized by the Beekeepers Association in Romania (ACA).
The honey fair will also feature products dedicated to beekeepers, such as beehives and components, machinery and other equipment, bee health products, nutritional products and specialized books.
According to ACA, the local honey production halved in 2014 due to drought recorded in the west of the country and excessive rainfall in the south. The price of honey rose by 15% last year.
Romania produces an average of 20,000 tons of honey annually, ranking fourth in Europe, reports Agerpres. Some 40,000 beekeepers are registered in Romania, 60% of them being ACA members.
Data shows that Romanians consume an average of 450-500 grams of honey per capita, per year, more than ten years ago but are still at the bottom of the European ranking.
