The number of mandatory house insurance policies (PAD) in Romania increased by 6.1% year-on-year reaching 1.69 million at the end of January 2017.

By comparison, there were 1.59 million active house insurance policies at the end of January last year, according to data from the Insurance Pool against Natural Disasters (PAID).

Of the total number, 75.1% of the policies were concluded in cities and 24.9% of them in rural areas. Based on the regions, most home insurance policies were made in Transylvania (20%), Bucharest (19%), south of Romania - Muntenia (18%).

PAID has been issuing compulsory home insurance policies since July 2010. The PAD policies cost EUR 20 for class A homes, for which the maximum insured sum is EUR 20,000, and EUR 10 for class B homes, for which the maximum insured amount is EUR 10,000.
