The number of potential winners of the first Fiscal Lottery organized by the Romanian Government exceeds 2,000, according to Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici. A few hundred people have already submitted their winning fiscal receipts to the tax authority ANAF claiming their prizes. Some Romanians had several winning receipts.

Holders of Visa cards issued in Romania carried out on February 7 over 2,050 transactions by card that amounted between RON 6 and RON 6.99, Visa Romania announced on Tuesday, April 14. They could all be winners in the fiscal receipt lottery, which offers a total prize of EUR 226,000.

The first draw of the fiscal receipt lottery took place this Monday. The winning receipts are the ones issued on February 7, with a value of RON 6.00 to RON 6.99.

In order to claim prizes, winners must submit the tax receipt in original at any local unit of Romania’s Tax Authority ANAF. The prize will be split among all winners, which means that the individual gains will be relatively small.

Not for all, however. A man from Arad claimed he had 23 winning tickets. He collected more than 1,000 receipts thrown away by the clients of a small shop and found that 23 of those were winners, according to Romania TV.

Another man from Sannicolau Mare near Timisoara managed to gather 13 winning receipts. An avid gambler, he said he never won anything from betting on sports, but he won the fiscal lottery, Digi 24 reports.

The total number of winners and the exact value of individual prizes will be announced in mid-May.
