Huawei plans to launch new mobile phones in Romania, targets 10% market share
Telecom solutions provider Huawei hopes to reach a 10 percent market share of mobile telephony sales in Romania by 2011, with plans to launch six new models by mid next month. The company had announced earlier this summer its plans to launch a PC tablet by the end of the year, which will sell at EUR 350.
The company plans to invest around EUR 1 million in advertising in 2011 and to distribute its products through all the mobile telephony operators in Romania and is currently negotiating partnerships. Huawei phones have so far been distributed through RCS & RDS telecom operator, that offered such phones for free to its subscribers.
The company's revenues in Romania reached EUR 37 million last year and expects a similar amount for this year. The local Huawei subsidiary has 340 employees, among which 30 percent Chinese. The company is run by Vlad Doicaru, who manages the Romania and Republic of Moldova operations.
