A Hungarian booking portal recently launched on the Romanian market. The group Szallas.hu launched HotelGuru.ro, a booking portal which includes 1,700 accommodation units in Romania, out of the total 13,000 accommodation units across Eastern Europe that are also listed on the site, according to Wall-Street.ro.

Romanian properties brought the site so far bookings worth some EUR 900,000, while Romanians who traveled abroad made some other EUR 1 million worth of reservations, according to Tamas Varga, international business developer with Szallas.hu.

Szallas.hu is owned by Hungarian investors and the Sanoma Media Budapest Zrt group. The platform intermediated bookings worth some EUR 25 million in 2013.

On HotelGuru.ro, tourists can book without making advance payments. The site is translated into seven languages (including English, and now Romanian) and is managed by a team of four located in Hungary. The launch of the Romanian office is expected later this year.

The English version of the site is live at HotelCE.com.
