Iconic seaside Casino building in Romania to undergo renovation this fall
The Casino in Constanta, Romanian seaside iconic building, now in ruins, will undergo restoration in mid-autumn 2015 and will be completed after about two and a half years, according to local authorities.
Some EUR 9.2 million were allocated from the central budget to restore the building. Before the start of work, however, some procedures have to be met for design and execution. Local authorities expect the process to be rather lengthy, as restoration usually brings surprises in terms of work. Moreover, both architects and designers bidding for the project have to be approved by the Ministry of Culture, as the Casino is a historic building.
The National Investments Company currently runs the Casino, after it took it over the management from the Constanta municipality. Constanta's mayor, Radu Mazare, now under arrest, said in the past he no longer wanted to look for private investors interested in restoring the building, as he feared he would be investigated by the anti-corruption authorities.
