Ikea Romania makes 7% of its sales online

14 July 2015

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has had almost 32,800 online orders since launching its online ordering service in Romania one year ago. The online purchases represented 7% of IKEA's total local sales during this period, the company announced.

Most of the orders made until June 30, 2015, were for furniture items (80%), according to a company statement. Starting early June, Romanian clients can also order fragile products such as plates, cups, or pots.

“IKEA Online Orders has accomplished its mission, offering clients access to more than 85% of IKEA’s products available in the store,” said Mihaela Muresan, Marketing Manager IKEA Romania.

IKEA’s local store, opened in 2007, was the company’s 253rd unit worldwide. Located in northern Bucharest, the store was initially operated under franchise. Later on, it became part of the IKEA Group, which started operating it directly.

IKEA Romania had a turnover of EUR 88 million in 2014, up by 9.4% compared to 2013. The company also made a net profit of EUR 2.5 million.

In mid-June this year, the retailer announced the location for a second store in Romania.
