Ilfov County Council head accused of receiving trips to Monte Carlo
Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) announced on Friday that it started the criminal action against the National Liberal Party (PNL) member Marian Petrache, who is currently the president of the Ilfov County Council.
Petrache is accused of receiving trips worth of over RON 57,000 (EUR 12,600) to Monte Carlo and Saint Moritz from the mayor of a commune in the Ilfov county, plus some EUR 10,000 paid to PNL. The mayor allegedly made the payments in 2008, when Petrache was a state secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Administration Reform, to keep his position.
Petrache allegedly threatened the mayor that he would have the Ilfov prefect issue an order to have him dismissed if he didn’t pay. The DNA prosecutors charged Marian Petrache with blackmail and bribery.
