IMF official: Romania should keep taxes at current level in 2011

05 September 2010

Romania should keep main taxes at their current level in 2011, IMF mission chief Jeffrey Franks said Sunday after a meeting with Romania’s new Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu.

Franks was present at the events organized Saturday and Sunday by the National Bank of Romania (BNR), which celebrates its 130th anniversary. On Friday, the IMF official held talks with Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc. Ialomitianu replaces former Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu who was dismissed Friday.

The International Monetary Fund is worried regarding Romania’s government arrears, which also affect the private sector and the country’s economy, Jeffrey Franks has previously said.  Arrears in the public sector affect not only the public sector, but the private sector as well, said Franks during a conference organized by the National Bank of Romania, which celebrates its 130th anniversary.
