Media: Renault to launch pick-up version of Romanian brand Dacia Duster
French carmaker Renault will unveil the concept for a future Dacia Duster pick-up model, at the Sao Paolo auto show, at the end of October this year. The new model will be produced in Brazil for the South American market and in a Mediterranean site for Europe, and the estimated launch time is the beginning of 2015, according to sources in the company quoted by French newspaper La Tribune.
Although it won’t be produced in Romania, the likely locations for the assembly of this model for the European market being Bursa in Turkey or Tanger in Maroc, the new pick-up concept is developed in Romania, by Renault Technologie Roumanie. Romanian journalists from Auto-TestDrive online publication published in March some photos of the new Duster pick-up concept, that is currently in the testing phase.
The concept of the future pick-up model will be based on the already famous Dacia Duster, one of the most successful for Renault. Launched four years ago, the Duster SUV has reached one million units produced and sold worldwide, in April this year. The Duster model is assembled in five Renault factories: Curitiba (Brazil), Pitesti (Romania), Medellin (Colombia), Moscow (Russia) and Chennai (India).
In the last four years, Duster has sold most Russia (151,600 units), France (145,600 units) and Brazil (117,300 units).
