Industrial production, up 5% in Romania in November on manufacturing
Romania’s local industry, a sector that represents a quarter of the country’s economy, recorded a 5.3% increase in production in November last year, compared to November 2015, due to an advance in the manufacturing sector.
The mining and quarrying industry continued to drop in November recording a decrease of 7.4% year-on-year. The production and supply of energy and gas went down by 1.6%.
The statistics reflect the general problems of the mining sector in Romania, which is mainly owned by the state and is undermined by the lack of reforms and weak competitiveness. The manufacturing industry, which has the biggest share in the Romanian industry, increased by 6.3% in November 2016 compared to November 2015.
In the first eleven months of last year, Romania’s industrial production increased by 1.6% compared to the same period in 2015. The advance was supported only by the manufacturing industry, which grew by 2.5%.
In 2015, the industrial production saw an annual growth of 2.7%, following an advance of 6.1% in 2014. The industry contributed by 23.2% to Romania’s GDP in 2015.
