Inflation enters positive territory in Romania after one year and a half
The consumer prices in Romania increased by 0.1% in January compared to the same month last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The annual inflation rate thus entered a positive territory, after a year and a half of negative values determined by tax cuts.
Food prices went up by 0.9% year-on-year in January. Meanwhile, the non-food goods and the services got cheaper by 0.9%, respectively 0.4%.
The share of goods and services which registered an annual decline in prices in January amounted to 27.6% whereas the share of those that had increases between 0 and 2.5% totaled 60.6%. The goods and services whose prices rose by more than 2.5% in the last 12 months had a share of 11.8% at the end of January.
The average evolution in consumer prices in the last 12 months (February 2016 - January 2017) compared to the previous 12 months (February 2015 - January 2016) was -1.4%.
