Inflation rate reaches 8.3 percent in Romania in April
Romania's annual inflation rate went up to 8.34 percent in April after food products became 10.9 percent more expensive and non-food products' prices increased by 7.7 percent, while service tariffs grew by 4.7 percent, according to data from the country's Institute of Statistics. The previous inflation arte was of 8.01 percent in March.
Consumer prices grew by 0.66 percent compared to March this year, above the estimations of 0.5 percent. Prices of fresh fruits grew by 7.7 percent, the price of sugar, by 4.9 percent and potatoes, by 4.5 percent. The higher price increases for non-food products were recorded for electricity – 5 percent. Eggs were cheaper by 6 percent in April, while cars and car parts, by 0.66 percent and airline tickets, by 1.65 percent.
Romania's Central Bank (BNR) upped the inflation prognosis for the end of this year to 5.1 percent, from a previous estimation of 3.6 percent.
