International celebrations for Romania’s National Day

Ex-patriate Romanian communities will celebrate Romania’s National Day on December 1, the day that marks the unification of the Romanian Principalities, proclaimed in 1918.

Romania’s National Day will be celebrated in Torino, Italy, on December 1 and December 2, with a play and a ballet at the Gobetti Theatre. On December 1 there will be a performance of the Romanian play ‘Mascariciul,’ directed by and starring Romanian artist Horatiu Malaele, starting 20:30 hours. While on Friday, December 2, Romanians will enjoy a ballet produced by the Bucharest National Opera.

Romanians living in Gyula, Hungary, will also celebrate Romania’s National Day through several events to be held on December 2, 2011. Romanian singer Nicu Alifantis will perform at the Studio Hall in the Fortress Theater, starting 18:00 hours, while the ‘Romanians from the edge of the world’ photo exhibition will be held at the Nicolae Balcescu Romanian School Hall in Gyula.

Between December 1 and December 4, 2011, Romania’s National Day will also be celebrated in Dusseldorf, Germany, through classical music concerts, Romanian music, choreography and carols. On December 1, soprano Nelly Miricioiu, accompanied by ChorForum, will hold a recital at the St. Engelhart Church in Essen, while Saturday, December 3, ArtKammer Orchester, which includes some of the most talented instrumentalists from Romania’s Timisoara National Opera, will perform at the Artists Theatre Hall in Dusseldorf (Malkasten).

All the events are organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), through the ‘Romanians Outside The Country’ organization.
