From tennis to business: The investments of Romanian tennis ace Simona Halep
Romania’s tennis star Simona Halep, who is currently No. 1 in the WTA singles ranking, has invested some of the money she made from tennis so far, mainly in hotels.
Simona Halep earned total prize money worth more than USD 20 million, according to the WTA prize money leaders list from November 2017. She invested some of the money in several buildings, cooperating with her family, mainly her father Stere Halep, in the business activities, according to Tennisworldusa.org.
The Romanian tennis player owns a four-star hotel near Poiana Brasov mountain resort in Romania, and has closed the SH Cafe in Constanta to build a boutique hotel. She also spent EUR 2 million for the Drachenhaus hotel in Brasov, with another hotel being built near the seaside resort in Mamaia.
Tennisworldusa.org reports that Halep’s close relationship with former tennis player Ion Tiriac, the only Romanian in Forbes’ richest list, has helped her develop her business skills.
