Italian group Astaldi will revamp another 36 km of railway in Romania for EUR 386 mln
A joint venture led by the Italian group Astaldi has won a contract of RON 1.76 billion (EUR 386 million) with Romania’s railway operator CFR to rehabilitate 36 kilometers of railway track.
The Barzava-Ilteu railway segment is located on the Pan-European Corridor IV connecting Nuerenberg, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Curtici, Simeria, Brasov, Bucharest, and Constanta. The segment will be refurbished with non-reimbursable EU funds as well as money from the state budget.
The work will include earthworks and consolidation on a segment of 36 kilometers, building 17 bridges, modernizing five bridges, one tunnel, and seven passages. After the rehabilitation project is finalized, passenger trains will be able to run on this segment at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.
Last month, the Italian group received another contract of RON 1.69 billion (EUR 370 million) with CFR to rehabilitate 45 km of railway.
