Kaufland moves up among biggest companies in Romania

German retailer Kaufland has advanced to the third place among the biggest companies on the Romanian market, after its turnover increased by a third in 2015, to EUR 2.4 billion.

It thus outranked Rompetrol, coming third after Automobile Dacia and OMV Petrom, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

The retailer has managed to double its business in Romania in the last four years.

Between 2011 and 2015, Kaufland’s network of stores increase by 50%, from 71 to 107 discount hypermarkets. In 2015, it opened only 5 stores but managed to increase its turnover by a third and consolidated its leadership on the local retail market.

Kaufland is part of the German group Schwarz.
