KFC and Pizza Hut pass the EUR 100 mln threshold in Romania
The KFC, Pizza Hut and PHD brands, which operate in Romania through franchises owned by Romanian investor Gabriel Popoviciu, generated a turnover of EUR 107.6 million last year, 26% higher compared to the 2014 sales.
The franchises’ total net profits grew from EUR 6.3 million in 2014 to EUR 10.5 million in 2015, according to official data from the Finance Ministry.
KFC, which has 57 restaurants in Romania, posted a turnover of EUR 72 million in 2015, up by almost EUR 15 million compared to 2014. Its profit grew to EUR 9.2 million from EUR 5.5 million in 2014.
The Pizza Hut chain includes 16 restaurants whereas the PHD has eight units, which also do deliveries. The turnover of the two brands reached EUR 35.5 million in 2015, up from EUR 28.4 million in 2014. Their profit exceeded EUR 1.3 million, up by EUR 400,000 compared to the previous year.
The three brands operate in Romania in a franchise system. Local company US Food Network controls the KFC restaurants and American Restaurant System operates the Pizza Hut and Pizza Hut Delivery (PHD) units. Both companies are controlled by Gabriel Popoviciu, who also brought to Romania other famous brands such as Hard Rock Cafe or IKEA. Popoviciu also owns Baneasa Shopping City, one of Bucharest’s biggest shopping malls.
American group Yum! Brands owns the KFC and Pizza Hut brands. The company had revenues of USD 13.1 billion in 2015.
