16 November 2016

Two men, namely a Lebanese citizen and a Frenchman, who were caught more than two years ago carrying 30 kg of cocaine with a market value of EUR 3 million, were sentenced to 10 years in prison each for drug trafficking.

The Constanta Court of Appeal’s decision is final, reports local News.ro.

Constanta Court previously sentenced Ismail Khochaiche Khairallah, a Lebanese citizen with residence in Romania, to 10.2 years in prison, and Alain Akra, a French citizen of Kuwaiti origin, to 10 years in prison for several offences, including drug trafficking.

The Court also decided to seize the 30 kg of cocaine, a gun, the amounts of EUR 5,000, USD 330, and RON 4,000, and two cars from the two.

The two defendants challenged the decision at Constanta Court of Appeal, but the magitrates rejected their appeals and maintained the first ruling.

The two were caught in 2014, following an action carried out by prosecutors from the Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
