Liberation writes about Romania’s brain drain

23 January 2018

French newspaper Liberation has written an ample article about one of Romania’s biggest problem: the immigration of its youth with higher education, who are fed up with the government instability and corruption.

This phenomenon doesn’t seem to worry the political power in Bucharest for now, Liberation observed. The French journalists have talked to some young Romanians who have decided to leave the country in the last year, although some of them have well-paid jobs in Romania.

“Many have left Romania since the Social Democratic Party came to power, in December 2016. In one year, PSD has constantly changed laws as well as fiscal and criminal codes, has diminished the opposition’s rights and the president’s powers, going as far as threatening the rule of law,” Liberation writes.

The French newspaper points out that Romania is the country who has lost most of its population in recent year, after war-stricken Syria, and that each year Romania loses the equivalent of an 85,000-people city.
