Liberty Galati, the integrated steel mill formerly known as Sidex, produced a record amount of steel products in 2021 - 2.4 mln tonnes, the highest since 2010, the company's representatives announced.

Furnace no. 5 produced 2.1 mln tonnes of liquid cast iron in 2021, the highest level since 1978 when it was put into operation.

The furnace was refurbished and modernized under a EUR 80 mln investment in 2011.

"These are excellent production results and proof of the efforts of all people working on the steel platform. They also demonstrate Liberty's involvement and the resources it invests in modernizing and improving the future of the company and its team. We are in the process of transforming Liberty Galati into a company of the future, with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030," said Paramjit Kahlon, CEO of Liberty Steel Group Primary Steel & Mining.
