Retailer Lidl publishes first financial data since entering the Romanian market
German retailer Lidl reported yesterday its 2014 financial data at the Romanian Finance Ministry. This is the first official financial data published since the company entered the local market in 2011.
The company posted a turnover of EUR 875 million and a profit of EUR 13.3 million. The company had 3,500 employees in 2014.
Last year, the retailer opened ten new stores and the consumption went up by 9%. Its turnover could have thus reached EUR 1 billion, according to Ziarul Financiar estimates.
The German retailer entered the local market in 2011 by taking over the discounter Plus, which had 107 stores. Lidl subsequently opened another 80-90 units from scratch.
The retailer is part of the German group Schwarz, which also owns Kaufland, the retail market leader in Romania.
