Loans granted by Romanian banks reach highest level since 2008
Romanian banks granted loans totalling EUR 1.1 billion in May, which is the highest monthly value recorded since April 2008. Compared to April, the volume of new loans increased by 55% from EUR 730 million.
One year ago, in May 2014, the volume of new loans reached only EUR 703 million, almost half of this year’s May value, reports local Capital.ro.
The local banks’ total non-governmental loan book reached EUR 47.7 billion at the end of May, up by 1.3% compared to April, according to data published by the central bank.
The new deposits exceeded EUR 4 billion in May 2015. However, these went down by 6.9% compared to April and by 7.3% compared to May 2014. Total deposits stood at over EUR 51 billion at the end of May.
