Local media reveal high salaries for Romania’s Financial Surveillance Authority management

17 February 2014

The first vice-president of Romania’s Finance Surveillance Authority ASF had in the last two months of 2013 a total gross income of over EUR 68,000, reports local daily Hotnews.ro.

In November 2013, Daniel Daianu, ASF’s first vice-president, had a gross income of some EUR 17,000, while in December, his gross income amounted to almost EUR 51,000.

“My gross income in December 2013 includes the gross salary, an annual holiday bonus (equivalent to a salary) given to ASF workers and that I picked up that month, and a bonus for the end of the year. Hence the large discrepancy from November and the other months,” Daianu told Hotnews.ro.

Daniel Daianu also added that some of his wage goes to donations.

His explanations came soon after Hotnews.ro published information on the gross income of ASF’s president and first-vice-president.

According to the information, the president of ASF, Dan Radu Rusanu had the highest salary in the institution, earning in the last two months of 2013 a total gross income of over EUR 72,000.

The first vice-president got the second-highest gross income of over EUR 68,000 in November and December.

A recent statement of ASF showed that the president of the institution gets the highest monthly wage, namely the RON equivalent of EUR 14,000, while the salaries of the first vice-president and vice-presidents of ASF amount to the RON equivalent of EUR 12,000.

ASF was created in 2013 by joining three institutions, the Insurance Surveillance Authority, the Private Pensions Surveillance Authority, and the National Securities Commission.
