21 December 2015

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air and its Romanian competitor Blue Air have taken their rivalry on a new front, as they both launched flights from Bucharest to Glasgow last week. They both target leisure travelers.

Blue Air had its first flight on Thursday, December 17, while Wizz Air flew fof the first time from Bucharest to Glasgow on Friday, December 18.

Both airlines have two flights a week on this route. Blue Air flies on Thursdays and Sundays while Wizz Air flies on Mondays and Fridays, until the end of March 2016, and then on Tuesdays and Sundays, during spring and summer.

“Having in mind the touristic potential of both Romania and Scotland, we are convinced that this new route will be very popular among tourism travelers,” said Gheorghe Racaru, general manager of Blue Air. The company also targets the Romanian community working in Scotland.

Wizz Air also relies on leisure travelers: “With the new route from Bucharest to Glasgow, which we operate twice a week, our schedule offers perfect opportunities to visit this unique city, either on city breaks or longer holidays,” said Tamara Mshvenieradze, Corporate Communications Manager Wizz Air.

Wizz Air and Blue Air are two of the largest airlines in Romania in terms of passengers carried.
