Five flights from Bucharest Otopeni airport to Frankfurt and Munich were canceled on Wednesday, March 18, as well as three flights from Germany to Bucharest, due to the strike of pilots of German airline Lufthansa.

In total, eight Lufthansa flights were canceled in Romania, Teo Postelnicu, representative of Bucharest airports company CNAB’s communication service told local Agerpres.

According to official sources cited by Agerpres, several hundred people were affected by these cancellations.

Lufthansa announced it will cancel 750 flights on Wednesday due to pilots’ strike, a measure that impacts 80,000 passengers.

The pilots decided to continue the strike on Thursday as well, a measure that affects short- and medium-haul flights. Pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced another strike on Thursday, on long-haul and cargo flights, a measure which Lufthansa said was incomprehensible and is affecting the customers around the globe, reports Reuters.

However, Lufthansa brands Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, Swiss and Austrian are not affected by the planned strikes.
