Mecaplast opens plastic parts factory in Romania for new Duster model
French group Mecaplast, specialized in the production of plastic car components, will open a factory in Romania this year to produce components for Dacia’s new Duster model, said Xavier Fouineau, Mecaplast Romania Country Manager, reports local Hotnews.
The factory will produce the roof bars for the new generation of the Duster model. The plant will be located between Pitesti and Mioveni, some 6 kilometers away from the Dacia plant in Mioveni.
The investment amounts to EUR 10 million, and the production will officially start in October 2017. The factory will have 100 employees by next year.
Mecaplast has acquired a plot of 20,000 sqm and a production hall of 3,000 sqm to start its activity in Romania. It is thus a brownfield investment.
The French company currently has a customer service center in Romania, but no factory. Mecaplast has been working with Renault, which owns the local car producer Dacia, since 1974. The group has a global strategy with Dacia, and will also build a plant in Morocco next year to provide car parts for the two Renault/Dacia plants located in Tanger and Casablanca.
