Media: Romanian authorities start searches in alleged tax evasion, money laundering cases, large Romanian media companies targeted
The Romanian Police started searches into several companies and individuals in Bucharest and in the Ilfov county for alleged tax evasion and money laundry, according to Romanian media.
Among the companies currently investigated is the MediaPro group, according to B1TV.
Searches are ongoing at 20 companies in Bucharest, and eight in Ilfov, all suspect of having hidden their taxable income. The damages are of some EUR 5 million, according to prosecutors.
More than 100 Police are involved in these searches, and they had support form the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI.
MediaPro group is owned by American CME. The company went through changes recently, after changing its general manager, with Media Pro founder Adrian Sarbu resigning from the helm of CME in 2013, and Aleksandras Cesnavicius brought in to lead the Romanian subsidiary.
