Media: Two Romanian politicians accused of leaving hotel without paying EUR 10,000 bill

11 April 2017

Two former candidates of United Romania Party allegedly left a hotel in Vaslui without paying a EUR 10,000 bill, during last year’s campaign for the parliamentary elections.

Former MP Cristian Rizea and George Ciprian Tardea stayed at a hotel in downtown Vaslui for about one month and a half, during which they only ate and drank very expensive products, reports local Iasitvlife.ro.

However, on the night of the parliamentary elections, when they saw that they haven’t won the desired MP seats, they left the hotel without paying the bill. The hotel manger estimates the damage at some EUR 10,000.

“They checked in on October 31, 2016, saying that they would pay the entire bill at the end. Rizea was coming here about once a week while Tardea was always staying at our hotel. On election night, probably when they saw that they didn't win, they fled the hotel, not before emptying the minibar. They left the keys to the rooms on the bed,” said the hotel manager.

“Tardea took out his luggage, piece by piece, during the day. At around 3 am, the two can be seen on the surveillance camera footage leaving the hotel.”

Although it’s been some four months since the incident took place, the politicians haven't paid the bill yet.
