The Bucharest Court of Appeal has rejected Belgian retailer Mega Image’s request to cancel a fine the company got from the Romanian Competition Council in early 2015, reports local Profit.ro.

The Council fined the company with EUR 5.8 million due to an agreement on fixing prices between Mega Image, three other retailers and 21 suppliers between 2005 and 2009. Mega Image challenged the Competition Council’s decision.

The other three retailers were Metro Cash&Carry Romania, which received a fine of EUR 11 million, Selgros, which was fined with EUR 6.6 million, and Real Hypermarket Romania, fined with EUR 5.3 million.

At the beginning of 2015, the Competition Council announced that it had sanctioned 25 companies active in retail and food supply with total fines of EUR 35 million.
