Mega Image Romania owner completes merger with Dutch group
The Ahold - Delhaize merger has been completed, and the new retail group’s shares started floating on the Amsterdam and Brussels stock exchanges on Monday, July 25. The new group has also presented its new logo.
The newly formed group, with total sales of EUR 50 billion worldwide per year, has 482 stores in Romania. Almost half of them operate under the Mega Image brand, whereas the rest are called Shop&Go and Gusturi Romanesti.
Ahold Delhaize was born from the merger of the Dutch supermarket-chain Ahold and the Belgian retailer Delhaize, following a USD 28 billion deal. Delhaize is the parent company of Mega Image.
The new group has 6,700 stores and 390,000 employees in 11 countries. Two-thirds of its sales were made in the United States last year.
Mega Image Romania posted a turnover of EUR 801 million in 2015, up 27% year-on-year. The company had over 8,000 employees.
