Over 60 new metro stations are planned to be opened in the next 10 years in Bucharest, following an investment of EUR 8.5 billion, according to the Romanian Transport Minister, Anca Boagiu. “All the development projects on the Bucharest metro worth EUR 8.5 billion, which means that over the next ten years will be built over 60 new stations”, she said.

Two new metro stations on Line 4, Jiului and Parc Bazilescu, were put into operation recently, after an investment of EUR 72.5 million, excluding VAT, and in the next two years two other stations on the same line are due for completion.

Jiului and Parc Bazilescu metro stations are connected by a 2.62 km metro line. Through the entry into service of the two new metro stations, the length of the Bucharest metro network reaches 68.6 km and a total of 51 underground stations. Construction works on these two stations started during the communist period, in 1986.
