Metro stations in Bucharest to be named after EU Member States on Europe Day, other events scheduled
Several events will be organized in Romania on Europe Day, celebrated on May 9, according to the European Commission Representation in Romania.
Europe Day will be celebrated in Bucharest and Sibiu - the European Capital of Cultural in 2007, and those interested in taking part in the celebrations can choose between several events:
- Europe Day concert at Afi Palace Cotroceni shopping mall in Bucharest, on May 9 - The concert will start with a flash mob on the Ode to Joy and will be followed by a 45-minute concert that will include most famous European symphonic pieces
- The European Metro, May 9, between 16:00 and 19:00 - 28 metro stations will bear the names of EU Member States. For example, Stefan cel Mare station will change the name to Austria, Basarab - Germany, Victoriei 1 and 2 - Slovakia and Sweden, Grozavesti - the Netherlands, Eroilor - Finland, Izvor - Spain, Pipera - Slovenia, Piata Romana - France, Piata Universitatii - Lithuania and Greece, and Unirii - UK and Denmark. Passengers will also be welcomed with artistic moments of music and dance, exhibitions, and will have the opportunity to participate in tastings of wine and other specialties
- European Film Festival, May 9-15 - Over 15,000 film lovers are expected to watch the films to be screened during this year’s edition of the European Film Festival, to be organized at Studio and Elvira Popescu cinemas in Bucharest
- Exhibition openings of the International Salon dedicated to Europe Day and launching of the European Photography Festival - On Friday, May 9, 12:00, will be organized the exhibition openings of the International Salon dedicated to Europe Day at the festivity hall of the Romanian Cultural Institute ICR in Bucharest and at Euro Foto Art gallery in Oradea. On this occasion, ICR Bucharest will also host the official launching of the European Photography Festival’s third edition
- Europe Day in Sibiu, May 9 - Piata Mare in Sibiu will host an art exhibition and concerts performed by students of the School of Art
- ONGFest - On May 10, the European Commission Representation in Romania will participate, through the European Public Space, at ONGFest - a traditional event organized by the Foundation for Civil Society Development. ONGFest will take place in Herastrau Park in Bucharest between May 9 and May 11
- Market of EU Member States, May 11 - Cismigiu Park in Bucharest will host representatives of the Member states, which will provide information to visitors in the stands located in the center of the park
