The production of milk for individual consumption amounted to over 85,600 tonnes in the first four months of 2014, up 14.3 percent year-on-year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.

The quantity of cow milk collected by processing units increased by 14.2 percent in this period, to over 301,900 tonnes.

Production increases were also registered for cheese products, including cheese obtained exclusively from cow milk, for cream, sour milk and butter.

The quantity of imported raw milk dropped by 11 percent, from 38,000 tonnes registered between January and April 2013, to 33,811 tonnes in the first four months of 2014.

In April, the production of milk for individual consumption went up to over 21,200 tonnes. The quantity of milk collected by processing units increased by 18 percent year-on-year, to 85,000 tonnes.
