Sources: Minimum wage to rise in two RON 50 stages in Romania
The minimum wage in Romania is to rise in two stages this year to reach RON 800 per month (just under EUR 184 at the current exchange rate), according to local news agency Mediafax. Quoting unnamed official sources, Medifax reports that there will be a RON 50 increase on February 1, followed by a further RON 50 rise in July this year.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said previously that the RON 100 rise in minimum wage would be implemented this year, after the budget is approved by Parliament, scheduled for January 23. Romania's Government has also indicated that it is aiming to increase the national minimum wage to RON 1,000 (EUR 230 ) by 2016.
