New York's MoMA wants classic Romanian film 'Reenactment' for permanent collection
After a great review of his films in the New York Times and a very enthusiastic reception to the opening of his two week retrospective, the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) could buy Romanian Lucian Pintilie's chef d'oeuvre 'Reenactment' for inclusion in the museum's permanent collection.
Laurence Kardish, head film curator at the MoMA expressed an interest in acquiring Pintilie's 1968 masterpiece for permanent exhibition. 'Reenactment' received a standing ovation at the opening of the MoMA's two week retrospective of the Romanian director's work.
The MoMA describes Lucian Pintilie as “One of Europe's finest filmmakers,” but points out that he is almost unheard of in the US. The veteran Romanian director made a personal appearance at the opening of his retrospective, introducing his work and answering questions from an appreciative audience.
