Money seized from corruption acts in Romania go to education, healthcare

09 December 2016

Romania’s Government has decided that most of the money the state gets from selling confiscated properties from people convicted for various offenses, including corruption, will go to the Education Ministry and Health Ministry.

The two ministries will each get 20% of the money thus obtained. The Interior Ministry, Justice Ministry, Public Ministry will each get 15% of the money. The remaining 15% will go to social NGOs.

Earlier this year, the Government set up a new agency that is in charge of recovering the damages established in corruption cases. The National Agency for Managing Seized Goods – ANABI should make sure that the state manages to recover more money from the convicted offenders. The new regulation sets the way the money ANABI recovers will be allotted.
