15 October 2012

Romanians and Bulgarians will be allowed to work in twice as many fields in France, according to a recent French Government decision. As many as 291 job types will be available to Romanians and Bulgarians, mainly in sectors where French companies have trouble finding local staff.

Hairdressing, car repairs, furniture transport, green area maintenance and personal kitchen manager are among the jobs available for workers from Romania and Bulgaria in France. The list also includes jobs in IT&C, banking and the financial sector.

These changes had been announced on August 22 by the French Government, along with the cancellation of a tax employers were supposed to pay to employ staff from Romania and Bulgaria.

Workers from Romania and Bulgaria will still have to face certain restrictions on the labor market until the end of 2013. They need to work in an approved field, and hold a work authorization, issued by the local authorities.

France is known for having sent numerous Romanian citizens of Roma ethnicity home from camps they had created, which made international headlines and angered human rights institutions.
