More Romanians go online on their phones and tablets
Romanians get more and more used to going online using their mobile devices, be it their phones or their tablets. In 2014, the average use of mobile devices in Romania was of 1.7 devices per capita, up from 1 device per capita in 2012 and 1.6 in 2013, according to a study conducted by digital marketing agency Today's, cited by local publication Electroretail.ro.
When it comes to using mobile devices for online shopping, Romania exceeds countries such as Slovakia, Russia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, with a figure of 24%.
There were 7.5 million active smartphones in Romania at the end of 2014, as well as 22.6 million SIM cards and 9.3 million subscriptions at telecom operators. Higher smartphones sales also led to an increase mobile traffic on Facebook social network, some 7.2 million Romanians having an account on this platform.
When it comes to other social networks, there are 160,000 accounts and 40,000 active users on Instagram, more than on Twitter – 26,000 active users in Romania.
In the first six months of 2014, the total number of active mobile internet connections increased by 28% to 14.4 million and this growing trend is expected to continue in 2015.
