More tourists in Romania in the first four months
Arrivals in tourist accommodation units in Romania amounted to 2.24 million in the first four months of the year, up 13.4% compared to the same period in 2014.
The arrivals of Romanian tourists represented 77% of the total while foreign tourists’ arrivals accounted for 23% (516,000), similar to the previous year, according to recent data from the National Statistics Institute INS. Europeans had the biggest share of foreign tourists arrivals – 75.9%. Over 83% of them came from EU Member States.
The overnight stays amounted to over 4.5 million, up 14.7% year-on-year. The average time of a stay was 2 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.
Most foreign tourists came from Italy – 57,400, Germany – 55,600, Israel – 44,600, France – 34,700, and the UK – 31,500.
The arrivals of foreigners to Romania, registered at the customs, amounted to some 2.3 million in the first four months, up 11.5% year-on-year. Almost 94% of them came from Europe.
The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted to 3.8 million, up 10.4% compared to the same period in 2014.
In April, arrivals in tourist accommodation units in Romania amounted to 638,000, 15.3% higher than the same month in 2014. Arrivals of foreign tourists represented 25.2% of the total (160,000), close to the figures registered in April last year.
Overnight stays amounted to 1.3 million, up 14.1% year-on-year.
