Most foreigners coming to Romania are not interested in tourism and choose to stay in Bucharest and other large cities, while only a quarter of them prefer the sea, the mountain resorts, the Danube Delta or spa resorts, according to the National Statistics Institute, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.

Over three quarters of the foreigners coming to Romania are staying in Bucharest and county capitals, most of them coming for business or to visit friends and relatives, and not for tourism.

“Most of the foreigners who come in the large cities are business people, not tourists,” Radu Enache, president of the Federation of Hotels in Romania told Mediafax.

Between January and November 2013, some 7.4 million people stayed in accommodation units in Romania, of which 1.6 million were foreigners.

Over 1.2 million foreigners stayed in Bucharest and county capitals. The seaside attracted some 31,000 foreigners, while 123,000 chose the mountain resorts.
