Most of Romania’s employees work in the private sector
Over 83% of Romania’s employed population worked in the private sector in the last quarter of 2014, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
Nearly 70% of the total population was of working age, but only 60.8% was employed. The active population reached 9.17 million, more than half (56.8%) being men.
Those aged 35-44 had the highest share of the employed population, with 29%, followed by those aged 25-34 (24.1%).
Within the employed group, 52.8% graduated high school and vocational education, 18.7% graduated university, and 24.9% only finished primary school.
Freelancers and unpaid family workers represented 30.6% of the employed, whereas people who earn salaries represented 68.3%. Some 57.9% of these worked in services, 39% in industries and construction and only 3.1% in agriculture.
