Which are the most popular words included in Romanian company names?

02 March 2016

Most Romanian business owners have Western aspirations and include English terms such as Consulting and Invest in their companies' names, shows an analysis made by local financial consultancy firm KeysFin.

Most of the active companies in Romania, namely 11,595, are called Consulting, and some 9,700 have the word Invest in their name. Other popular terms included in local company names are Construct (8,856), Trans (8,272), Company (6,851), Design (6,212), and International (6,122).

The list of popular names also includes Star, Tech, Business, Trading, Management, Media, Expert, Soft, Concept, and Logistic. More than 100,000 companies in Romania include one of these terms in their names.

Romanian investors also like Best, Smart, Industrial, Marketing, Universal, Super, West, Fast, Gold, and Mega.

"These names, which are the most common, prove that Romanian investors try to make sure that their companies have a solid image, trying to show stability and seriousness through the names. The fact that 90% of the companies in Romania have their headquarters in apartments, that’s another issue," say KeysFin analysts.

Moreover, another phenomenon is gaining ground in the economy: setting companies abroad, in London, Paris, or the US. This way, the local investors want to show potential partners that they are dealing with serious companies.

However, there are also local businesses that have more “national” names. For example, 170 companies are called Miorita, after an old Romanian pastoral ballad.

There are also investors who prefer to name their companies after flowers - Magnolia, Crinul (Lily), and Crizantema (Chrysanthemum), or birds – Albatros (Albatross) and Condor.

Other popular names among Romanian business owners are Favorit (Favorite), Splendid, Elixir, Nirvana, Talisman (Lucky charm), Fortuna, Orizont (Skyline), Unic (Unique), Actual, Viitorul (The future), Ascendent (Upward), Cristal (Crystal), Diamant (Diamond), and Briliant (Brilliant).

According to KeysFin analysts, all these names "prove that Romanian businessmen, no matter the level they operate on, look at the reality with optimism, trying to boost their business by any means."

The study took into account the almost 550,000 companies registered and active in Romania in 2014.
