New airline launched in Romania

21 July 2016

Former managers of the state-owned airline Romavia, which went bankrupt in 2014, have launched a new airline specialized in charter flights which is called Aviro Air.

The company has become operational and has taken over a large part of the Romavia employees, according to local Wall-street.ro.

Romavia was founded in 1991 under the coordination of the Defense Ministry. It was mainly used by Romanian officials, including Romania’s President, in their trips abroad. The company had exclusive rights to carry out special flights.

The company’s financial situation gradually worsened, especially due to staff costs. In 2014 Romavia went bankrupt.

The same year Aviro Air was set up, but the company has become operational only this year. It owns two British Aerospace aircraft. The company currently operates flights to Europe and Middle East.

Romanian state-owned airline Tarom expected to record losses this year too
