New baccalaureate session starts in Romania
Over 63,000 high school graduates signed up for the fall session of the baccalaureate exam which started on Monday, August 18, 42,000 of whom from the 2013 – 2014 class, and the rest having graduated in previous years.
In the summer session of the baccalaureate, some 59,000 candidates failed. Results for the fall session should be announced on September 1, with final results after appeal scheduled on September 4.
Romanian high school graduates can take the baccalaureate exam irrespective of their age, but maximum twice for free. Extra attempts are paid – RON 230 per attempt. Last year at the fall session of the baccalaureate, only 21.5% of the candidates were successful; that was 15,500 candidates out of the total 72,000.
There were 151,000 candidates at the summer exam, where the failure rate was of 39%. The lowest failure rate was in 2005 – 16%, and the highest, in 2012 – 54%.
