New Communications Minister asks for control at Romanian Post

01 September 2016

Delia Popescu, the new communications minister, has asked for an elaborate control at the Romanian Post.

The Communications Ministry and the Court of Auditors will check the allowances and bonuses granted to directors of the Romanian Post, as well as the hiring procedures and several acquisition contracts, including the contract with Patria Bank, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The Romanian Post is one of the largest companies in Romania, with over 24,000 employees. The company has a historical debt of over EUR 85 million, which has been rescheduled.

In 2014 the Romanian Post first recorded a profit after five years of losses. However, the company returned to losses last year.

The control group within the Communications Ministry will also check the Post’s procedure for buying POS systems or cars. It will also control the feasibility studies for the projects that will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as the confidentiality agreement between the EBRD and the Romanian Post.
