New Ghana-Romania Chamber of Commerce opens

04 June 2012

A new Romanian chamber of commerce has opened in Ghana's capital Accra. Alexandru Alexandrescu is the president of the new Ghana Romania Chamber of Commerce in the West African state and said he hoped the national and international contacts the chamber could provide would be of benefit to its members.

Talking about Romania's network of commerce chambers he said, “Primarily, we interact actively with other stakeholders responsible for internationalization of business and are an integral part of a national and regional chamber networks across Europe and beyond,” quoted by Ghanaian news service SpyGhana.

Ghana's Deputy Minister of Local Government & Rural Development Elvis Afriyie Ankrah attended the event and officially launched the new chamber of commerce. He encouraged foreign investors to come to Ghana, saying it was a safe place to invest and that the at times heated exchanges between the country's politicians were no cause for alarm and that they were only a reflection of Ghana's 'colorful' politics.

Trade between Romania and Ghana stood at USD 4.5 million in 2009, most of which were Romanian exports to Ghana, some USD 3.6 million.
