New strike at local public transport in Romania: drivers in Brasov stop work asking for higher salaries
Two weeks after public transport drivers in the Romanian city of Constanta suddenly stopped work, a similar strike started in the central city of Brasov. The drivers of the local Public Transport Company RAT Brasov started a protest on Friday morning (June 7), unhappy about their salaries, which have not been raised for several years. On Friday morning, none of the public transport was functioning in the city.
The average salary at the public transport company is of RON 1,150 – some EUR 260. The county's prefect Mihai Mohaci went to talk to the protesters' union and with the management to find a solution. The salaries topic had been a discussion subject between the company's management and the employees for several months, but the existing legislation does not allow increases in salary expenses, according to RAT Brasov.
