Romanian artist Ecaterina Vrana will be the first Romanian woman painter to exhibit in a solo show at the Armory Show, New York's premier art fair and one of the most important modern and contemporary art fairs in the world, the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) announced.

Vrana is being showcased by Nicodim Gallery, which has spaces in both Bucharest and Los Angeles. The gallery opened its Los Angeles location in 2006 and introduced to the U.S. art market Romanian artists such as Adrian Ghenie, whose works have sold for record sums in recent years, Șerban Savu, Ciprian Mureșan, and Miklos Onucsan.

Ecaterina Vrana’s works have been previously exhibited in Los Angeles at the Nicodim Gallery, and a catalogue with reproductions of her art was presented last year at the New York Art Book Fair, which takes place at the MoMA PS1 (Museum of Modern Art PS1).

Vrana was born in 1969 in Constanta and currently lives and works in Bucharest. She previously had exhibitions at the Constanta Art Museum, the Aiurart, H’Art galleries in Bucharest, at the Carturesti Carusel bookstore, at the French Institute, and the Freiburg University in Germany. Her works can be found in the collections of the Ludwig Museum in Budapest or the Contemporary Art Museum MNAC in Bucharest. Her art is also part of private collections in the US, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, and Romania.

The Armory Show takes place between March 1 and March 5. Over 300 art galleries, from over 100 cities and four continents, will be present at the event. Some 200 artists will go on display at the fair. Another significant, contemporary art fair, Volta NY, affiliated to the Armory Show, takes place at the same time. Two Romanian artists are exhibiting here. They are Szilard Gaspar (represented by the Zorzini Gallery in Bucharest) and Dan Voinea (represented by Slag Gallery in Brooklyn, NY).
